Strength and Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is a very important part of boxing.Which includes developing strength, power, speed and overall fitness.The following sessions are examples of the types of private boxing training and private fitness training that we do.

  • CARDIO CONDITIONING

This ensures that a boxer is fit enough to be able to train day after day or compete at a high level. Cardio conditioning is vital to a boxer's training.

These sessions include: 

Bike Riding -  This is good for reducing the load during heavy training.Cycling sessions include Interval based 'spinning’ sessions & Steady paced endurance work.

Swimming -  Swimming can be used as good variation to other types of training, either as an alternative or for recovery.

Running -  Running is traditionaly the main way for a boxer to keep fit and sessions involve steady paced endurance work, Interval running & Sprints.

  • SPEED, AGILITY & PLYOMETRICS

Speed, agility and plyometrics sessions will improve the boxers footwork, movement and general lower body power.

  • STRENGTH & POWER

Strength training is also a key part of a boxers' weekly training.This helps to increase movement ,punching power and helps reduce the risk of injury. Emphasis is on physical strength because a boxer ideally needs to be stronger than their opponent.

Our Strength and power Training sessions include:

Dumbbell and Bodyweight circuit training sessions using added weight to build strength and speed and power circuit sessions using lighter weights.

After all of the necassary training it is essential that a boxer recovers correctly. Sleep, nutrition and hydration are vital for recovery, but other techniques used is the ice bath.

We use a number of different ways of training at Better Boxing Training. The type and intensity of boxing training sessions will vary.This depends on certain parts of the training programme, the individual boxer and the competition schedule if competing.
